Laughter is sunshine, it chases winter from the human face.
FULL NAME: Merrion Priddy
NICKNAMES: Merri, Mer
AGE & DOB:
GUILD: Mages Guild
JOB CLASS: Scholar (age: 12) -> Black Mage (age: 17) -> Synergist (age: 21) -> Blue Mage (age: 25) -> Red Mage (age: 27)
WEAPON: Staff & Rapier (training)
You'll never see him frown because he's the nicest kid in town
Merrion stands at an average height of 5'10 with short brown hair and bright blue eyes. He is clean-shaven and has a little muscle thanks to his weapons training, but he's not buff in any sense of the word. His skin is free from scars or scabs as he's always quick to heal himself, though bruises aren't an unusual sight if you should see his bare arms or legs. As for his dress, he really does like the red mage uniform, especially the hat, and he's loathe to leave the tower without wearing it; however, he does have other clothes that he'll wear, and they can go from simple to outlandish depending upon the occasion... mostly outlandish, and he dislikes it. Someday Merrion will learn not to let Owena dress him.
Start a new fashion, wear your heart on your sleeve; sometimes you reach what's real just by making believe
Merrion is one of those people who wants to make everybody happy but may not necessarily have the appropriate social skills to pull it off. Still, it won't stop him from trying. He'll drop what he's doing to aid someone with whatever they need help with, unless he's already helping someone else, but he'll finish up with them and then move on to the next person who needs help. He'll hesitate on anything that he thinks is morally wrong or breaking rules, but convince him that the cause is just and he'll be at your side. Also, Merrion is very liberal with the word "friend." Exchanged a few good words with him? Friends! Did you smile at him in greeting as you passed by him in the hall? Best friends! Even if someone hates him, he'll think of that person as a friend just because they know each other's names. He is extraordinarily friendly, though his attempts at humor often fall flat, and should anyone say cross words to him, he'll either try to counter it with light-hearted humor or just shut up and move on and pretend like it didn't ruffle him.
Merrion has a need to know all the things from knowledge in a book to all the gossip. He can be very nosy, but he doesn't mean any harm in it; he's just naturally extremely curious. If you tell him to mind his own business, he'll be mildly wounded, but he'll at least leave you be, though he wouldn't be opposed to obtaining the information some other way even if he won't outwardly go out of his way to find it. However, when it comes to gossip, your secrets are safe with him. The secrets of books, on the other hand, should never be secrets, so be very careful when ask him on how to about this or that because he won't stop talking.
He's also finicky about his health and any breaking of skin or skin discoloration. He's quick to assume the worst. Somehow, that panic doesn't seep towards others. If someone else is sick or injured, he actually keeps a level head and tends to be far more accurate with their diagnosis than with his own, even if he may not necessarily be able to do anything about it, especially if it's really bad. Go find a real white mage. Merrion is also the type to keep himself immaculate, being a bit of a germaphobe.
That's not to say, of course, that he's a total spaz. He actually keeps a laid back composure most of the time. He tries to keep a smile on his face, even if something happens that would cause him to lose that smile. In that case, he'll make it appear that it's rolled right off his back, but when he's alone, if anyone were to peer into his room, they'd see that he is not handling it as well as he pretended. He won't cry or be MANLY and destroy everything in sight, but he will be very sullen.
On the battlefield, he's good in a support role and on the offense, though in that sense, he's better used as a last-ditch effort as he can put a lot of OOMPH in his mediocre spells, but he can only do this once or twice in any given battle and he'll need time to conjure them up. Otherwise, he can do a lot of mediocre spells. The support role is also suitable for him since has basics in mystic and synergist spells (his synergy spells are better than his mystic spells, however). As a red mage, though, he can honestly do whatever you need him to do, just don't rely on him for anything too high-powered except for just that once.
As for weaponry, he's not great at anything, but he prefers the sword, though he'll use anything he can get his hands on if magic isn't an option. He'll use his synergist powers to enhance his weapon, but he really won't stand much of a chance against someone really skilled without help. Merrion, fortunately, is aware of this, and he will not normally enter battle without someone else at his side. Alone, he'll try to get out of fighting as best as he can, but if not, he at least can hold his own, especially if he can figure out his opponent's weak spots and vulnerabilities quickly enough.
Storybook endings, fairy tales coming true, deep down inside we want to believe they still do
Merrion comes from a tiny village not too far from Emillion and is an only child to a shopkeep and his lovely little wife. Theirs was an unassuming family in an unassuming town, and it was as quiet as anyone could ask for.
Then, when Merrion was five years old, his father took ill, though he did not seek medical attention until it was far too late to save him. After he passed, Merrion's mother, who had already coddled him plenty, began to fret over every sniffle, scratch, and bruise, and so Merrion was kept indoors for most of his childhood, his only friends being books, books, and more books, the doctors who tired of his mother's worrisome ways, and one young girl who came to his window every day to sneak him sweets and conversation.
At the age of nine, at the behest of this young girl, he climbed out of his bedroom window to play with the other children and one of the boys' dogs. Merrion's allergies flared, his knee got scraped up, and he broke an arm from falling out of a tree. After seeing his mother distressed, and being convinced from her reaction that he was, in fact, going to die, he resolved to stay safely indoors, and the girl who had been his only friend never came back, and not even his books could ease the hole in his heart.
Among the books that he read were ones on magic, and he became fascinated with the study and begged his mother to let him go to Emillion to learn more about it. Afraid that she was going to lose the only person in the world she had left, she refused until he decided to put what he read in books into practice -- foolishly believing that he could just teach himself -- and nearly burned down the house. She had no choice but to let him go after that, not only for her safety or the house's safety by his as well, and he passed the tests with ease though also not without breaking a few things in his wake.
Merrion's scholar years were long and grueling but he made many friends (or many people who he considered a friend), and he passed all of the tests with flying colors except for the practicals, where his biggest problem was controlling his raw power. Because of all the accidental destruction, most thought that he would be a perfect black mage, but alas, he leveled off, unable to perform even the simplest of the more powerful spells. After failing one too many tests, he decided to try his luck at becoming a synergist, but he stalled here, too, despite his simple spells being more powerful than most.
Then a pretty girl in blue mage training came into his life, and Merrion decided that he must become a blue mage, too. He fared horribly here: that pretty girl, Owena, was interested in women, not men, and having never held a weapon before, he was awful in his performance. Still, he was determined, and with the help of Owena (who became one of his closest friends), he learned the basics of many types of weapons before he was shuffled off to become a red mage, his spellcasting being powerfully diverse and having some training in weaponry even if he was far from the best. He keeps up with the sword as best as he can, because women think magical swordsmen are dashing and romantic, don't they? That's what Owena tells him, anyway.
After becoming a red mage, he picked up a few more spells from mystics and white mages. His white magic is horrible though, which is unfortunate, because his mother's habits came with him to the guild and the white mages are through with him constantly begging them to be absolutely sure that he doesn't have this disease or that disease and is this scratch infected because the cat took offense to his proximity and took a swipe at him. Still, he knows just enough to treat minor wounds, but he can't do anything about illnesses, infections, or anything life-threatening. The mystic spells he can perform are limited and weak; he knows more than he can do. He has a time mage friend who is teaching him some of the basics in time magic, and he's doing better here, but he's hesitant to try any of it on the field at the moment.
Merrion now serves on the council as a sort of middleman between the varying opinions. He listens well, has a vast array of knowledge, and is determined to make sure no one leaves the meetings unhappy though he struggles with the fact that it's an impossibility most of the time. He's not sure if he likes the political aspect of the council, but he enjoys being in the know, so to speak.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES!
Dreamers have mountains they will climb; there are dreamers who don't believe in time
+ Hypochondriac. If he has the sniffles, he needs all the medicine and now or he's going to die. If he has a wound, it's infected and his arm or leg must need chopping off. Many of the white mages have stopped agreeing to treat him; heaven help him if he really does need the medical attention someday.
+ To his credit, he actually is allergic to all the furries and feathery ones. But it's really not that bad; he just gets a stuffed up nose and puffy eyes, but he still thinks he's going to die. Like, literally die.
+ Clumsy. It's hard for him to walk from one end of the room to another without running into ten things, even if a table is the only thing in said room. And though he's an excellent person to have on the battlefield, toss a banana peel out there and his foot is sure to find it.
+ Has a foot-in-mouth problem. He really doesn't mean to offend, and he really doesn't mean what he says, he's just no master at putting words together properly. He just really wants to be your friend.
+ Too trusting. Ask him to do a favor and he'll do it, except if it's something where rules get broken, in which he might need a little convincing. This leaves him vulnerable to getting into all the trouble.
+ White Magic: he can only perform a very basic level of Cure, and any other forms of White Magic are weak at best.
+ Willing and eager to learn all the things. There is not a single subject out there with which you can bore him with. As such, he's really knowledgeable, though true to red mage nature, he's no expert in any given topic.
+ Despite his clumsiness, he's actually quite formidable on the battlefield, being a red mage with a good store of raw power. Just, again, keep those banana peels away from him, and you'll be in good hands. He's also a great support mage if you're in need of that.
+ Easily amused. He's never bored, and you could make the worst joke in the world and he'll laugh without genuinely realizing that it's really not that funny, unless it's absolutely tasteless.
+ Responsible, as in he takes ownership of his tasks to see them to the end and done as well as he can manage and on time, and if he makes a mistake, he will own up to it like the adult he is.
+ Really, he's just a nice guy, even to a fault.
+ Offense: While he's still best in a support role, his strength lies in the attack rather than the defense (see: he sucks at White Magic). He is best at Wind and Fire.

TRIVIA & OTHER!
Each happy ending's a brand new beginning; let yourself be enchanted, you just might break through
+ Merrion is the kind of hopeless romantic who will bring the person he fancies flowers and chocolate and write them love songs and sonnets... if only he could work up the nerve to go through with any of it. He'll write the love songs and sonnets and he'll buy the flowers and chocolate, he just won't GIVE them to said person of interest.
+ He hates sweets. They remind him too much of that little girl who abandoned him when he was young.
+ Enjoys the theatre and attends when he remembers to tear himself away from his books and training. After all, it's all about those epic stories he loves so very much.
+ Superstitious like you wouldn't believe. He even believes that the mage tower is haunted.
+ Merrion would like to become an arithmetician someday because he sees it as where all the real knowledge of magic is, but he knows it isn't likely to happen.
+ He lends himself to being taken advantage of. Someone do it.
+ Someone also needs to tell him to settle down; he doesn't need to know everything.
+ Or he can get into trouble for knowing too much about something.
+ Mage Guild Council member
Are you comfortable with the possibility of this character being killed? Nooooo. ;_;
